If you know someone who doesn’t have any clothes or food, you shouldn’t just say, “I hope all goes well for you. I hope you will be warm and have plenty to eat.”

What good is it to say this, unless you do something to help? Faith that doesn’t lead us to do good deeds is dead.

James 2 v 15-17

Facts

Homepartner family Habitat for Humanity is a Christian housing charity, founded in 1976 with the sole aim of tackling poverty housing on local and international levels. Over thirty years later we are working in over 90 countries around the world and have built over 300,000 homes in partnership with families in need of safe, decent housing.

The work of Habitat for Humanity is driven by the desire to give tangible expression to the love of God through the work of eliminating poverty housing. Habitat provides an opportunity for people to put their faith and love into action, bringing diverse groups of people together to make affordable housing and better communities a reality for everyone, regardless of race or religion.

Habitat for Humanity has so far served over one and a half million people and is now building at such a rate that we serve a low-income family somewhere around the world every 10 minutes through new house construction, major house rehabilitation projects and with house repairs. In 2007, Habitat served a record 49,000 families in need.

Building

Partnering with churches helps us fulfil our mission to demonstrate the love and teachings of Jesus Christ. Christians can provide essential prayer support and invaluable resources that help serve families in need of housing. Our volunteers spend up to two weeks on location and have the opportunity to discover what poverty housing is really all about as they immerse themselves in the local community and actually build a house hand-in-hand with our homepartner family. Follow the links of the Volunteer page to find out more.
