Volunteer in Great Britain
Habitat for Humanity Great Britain was founded in 1992. Since then, our affiliates in on the UK mainland have completed over 90 units, the latest of which were 12 apartments in London last year, and work continues on a 32-house build in Liverpool which will be ongoing until 2012. You can go and build on site for just a day, or for longer if you prefer.

Liverpool Habitat for Humanity: The site is in Granby-Toxteth, a racially diverse area with over 54 nationalities. Poverty abounds – it is ranked 10th on the national index of Multiple Deprivation and there is up to 20% unemployment in the district, higher in some pockets (up to 70% unemployment among the Somali community, for example). The incidence of disease is also higher (death through respiratory and cerebro-vascular diseases are more than 2.5 times the national average).
The Catholic Archdiocese of Liverpool generously donated a large 2.2 acre site by the, enough to build 32 houses. So far, 9 have been completed. Southwark Habitat for Humanity: Although based in Southwark where many new homes have been built, including a block of 12 flats completed last year, Habitat for Humanity Southwark’s projects also include refurbishments of homes (often in partnership with other charities). Further new build projects are also in the pipeline. To find out more about the latest volunteering opportunities, contact Alex Waddington on 020 7732 0066 or email alex.waddington@shfh.org.uk
