Ecuador - Women build for a better future

Bella and family

Bella and family

The build

The family's new home being built

Bella and seven other family members lived in a tiny, fragile bamboo-walled house. It had a lean-to kitchen and no bathroom or shower.

Ecuador hosted its first Women Build event in March 2004, to build four concrete block houses for four families in Guayaquil. Two all-women Global Village teams, one with the first native Latin America/Caribbean team leader, plus volunteers from Costa Rica, Bolivia and Ecuador came to work together with future homeowners, including Bella and her family, and construction leaders.

Bella and her family now live in a decent, secure house where they can feel safe and build a future.
