Benefits for your group

celebrating
building
making friends

Take a group on a Habitat for Humanity build and you will never see your friends, colleagues or acquaintances in the same way again. However well you know them, the experience of building a house as part of the Global Village programme will strengthen and build your group and individual relationships, deepening your mutual trust and friendship.

It's team building with a difference!

  • A long term goal with a real humanitarian focus – you will make a lasting and tangible impact on the lives of a family in need
  • From the time you commit to the idea, to the time you set off and return, your team will have a "living project" – it's more than just fundraising and the teamwork begins way before you pick up your hammer!
  • Your team will experience new heights of compassion and new depths of friendship
  • You will never forget what you accomplished together
  • Organising a team is hard work, but great things are never easy
  • And the greatest thing of all … you will build a house for a family in poverty and their lives will be transformed forever.

Here, some group members share their experiences …

"The atmosphere making the houses was perfect – mixing the necessity of serious work with the feel of a happy, relaxed team. Being able to look back and remember not only the houses going up in front of our eyes, but also playing with the kids, singing on the roof, and mud fights all made it a very special trip." Robin who built in Qauia in Fiji.

"The two weeks of the Global Village trip were about building relationships with new friends – Ecuadorians – and with God. I have felt the power of a smile, the reward of laughter, the gift of hope. How unique to feel so rich in a country I anticipated to have so little! I'm blessed to have been filled with a strength of spirit, having given and received God's love." Ann Marie who went to Santo Domingo de los Colorados in Ecuador.

"The homeowner explained that he had never seen his village come together as they had during our visit – staying up all night, singing together, dancing together, and eating together. He said that what we were building was more than a house. We were building a legend – one that would be told and retold by those present, by their children and by their children's children. He said the two houses the team built would stand as a reminder of that week when they came to build, and of how the villagers came together and helped build those houses." Andrew went to Vunivaivai in Fiji.
