We are now building 852 homes for families in the Visayas region.
On 16th January, we signed an agreement with the Philippine Government to build 852 houses – this was just the start.
‘Signing this agreement in Tacloban is a major step in Habitat for Humanity’s long-term rebuilding efforts following Haiyan. Safe, decent shelter provides the platform on which much of post-disaster assistance is built – health, water, sanitation, livelihoods, safety, education – and is one of the most pressing issues currently facing Haiyan-affected families,’ Rick Hathaway, Habitat for Humanity Asia-Pacific Vice President.
We are working alongside families to build new homes designed to resist future typhoons. Each steel-framed, typhoon-resistant home costs around £3,050.
Please help us rebuild the Philippines and reach our targets:
25,000 shelter repair kits
30,000 permanent homes
‘In order to reach some remote islands, Habitat has been transporting materials on bangkas (traditional fishing boats)’, said Rick Hathaway, Habitat for Humanity Asia Pacific Vice President.
Our homes are designed to resist future typhoons. We will work alongside families to build new homes designed to resist future typhoons. Please help these families start new lives in safe homes.
