We are inviting women from all walks of life to come volunteer in India at our Women Build in Delhi!

Why Women Build?

In 2018 we will to send a team of women to join India's multinational Women Build. This will be an amazing opportunity to join women from all over the world to build a world where everyone has a safe place to all home.

Women have been an important driving force behind the construction of Habitat for Humanity homes around the world. From Canada and Romania to Kenya and India, women have joined forces to change the lives of families in need of a hand up.

Through our unique Women Build programme, we harness the power of women to help build homes and hope for hardworking, vulnerable communities that are desperate to change their lives.

The trip will be an amazing opportunity to work together as a team, make new likeminded friends (whether you're coming on your own or with a friend) and be part of something bigger!

This year, a team of twelve women set out to Chimtewadi village, outside Mumbai, to build alongside Leela Chimte and her family.

Why are we building in Delhi, India?

A government 'beautification' project in Delhi uprooted residents from the area of Yamuna Pushtai and relocated them to Bawana. The abrupt move meant livelihoods, possesions and homes were destoyred in the process. It has been a difficult adjustment for many and has set families back into extreme poverty.

The people of Bawana have constructed temporary thatch housing to shelter their families, but these huts offer no relief from harsh Delhi climate of intense summer heat and torrential rains of the monsoon season.

We are therefore helping the citizens of Bawana build substantial housing—homes that not only improve health and education, but also build stronger communities, safer places for people to do more than merely live, places that allow families to thrive.

Our work in India

Across the country we are working with low income families to build new homes, rehabilitate slums and provide access to clean water.

By 2019, we therefore plan to reach out to 500,000 low-income families with improved housing solutions, post-disaster reconstruction and sanitation.

To meet the country’s vision of a home for all by 2022, India will need to build an additional 110 million housing units.

This figure includes the current shortfall of 60 million units, according to a study conducted by National Real Estate Development Council and KPMG.
