Project: Women Build
Project: Women Build
Women Build engages volunteers abroad and future community leaders to address economic challenges that women face because they lack opportunity, training or education.
Women from all walks of life advocate for affordable housing and safer, stronger communities, particularly in areas where women are at risk for physical harm while performing daily chores.
Some women have to travel long distances to collect water or to go to the bathroom, and that creates a risk for their safety. Women are also vulnerable when living in unsafe, insecure homes that can be broken into.
The housing need in this rural area is huge. There are hundreds of families in need of safe and decent shelters with toilets.

About our building projects
It is important to note that these building projects are not dependent on volunteers, nor created for the sole purpose of “entertaining” them (e.g. voluntourism).
Every day around the world local builders are working on our projects, creating local jobs, and boosting the economy. Volunteers bring a crucial boost to the productivity and a valuable reminder that compassionate people want to help these families and communities to thrive.Find out about last years Women Build
In 2019, we will send a team of women to India for our annual Women Build. This will be an incredible opportunity to join women from all walks of life, to build a world where everyone has a safe place to call home.
Make Your Impact
This is your unique opportunity to help families build their homes by raising vital funds and directly contributing to our work on the ground.
We build because vulnerable families deserve substantial housing.
We build real homes, which have the power to improve health and education, create strong communities and safety for women and children, allowing them to thrive and not just survive.
Why Women Build in India?
We build in India because vulnerable families deserve substantial housing. We build real homes that have the power to improve health and education, create strong communities and safety for vulnerable people, allowing them to thrive and not just survive.
Unsafe and inadequate housing is a major problem faced by people living in rural areas. Houses with thatched roofing, week foundations and flooring with mud and cow dung are unsafe and require frequent repairs.
Be A Part of Something Bigger
If you want to be a part of something bigger, to harness your power as a woman, to help build homes for other vulnerable women and communities who are desperate to change their lives, then this project is for you.
The trip will be a life-changing opportunity to engage in teamwork, meet like-minded people, make friends and empower women in need, through shelter.
I was humbled by what I witnessed in Mumbai and the surrounding rural area and can only stress to others considering taking part in future builds just how fulfilling an opportunity it really is. Nicola Barclay, Women Build 2017
