Why Empty Spaces to Homes renovation?

• A good home as the basis for a good life: With 131,140 households (and 169,050 children) currently in temporary accommodation, we need rapid and effective solutions to avoid the harms to health, education and livelihoods that comes with inappropriate and insecure housing 

• Saving the planet while building homes: By reusing existing buildings we reduce waste, material use and the environmental impact of construction 

• Boosting existing communities: Empty buildings are often well connected to existing infrastructure, and their reuse is welcomed by local communities that don’t want them going to waste. Adding density to town centres also helps support local businesses in a way out of town development doesn’t. 
• Helping the public purse: With councils risking bankruptcy due to temporary accommodation costs, creating more social and genuinely affordable homes from existing assets is vital, freeing up funds for public services
