This year, Habitat for Humanity marks an extraordinary milestone: 50 years of building strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.

Since 1976, Habitat has worked alongside families and communities across the world, helping more than 65 million people build or improve the place they call home. It is a powerful testament to what is possible when people come together with a shared belief: that everyone deserves a safe, decent place to call home.

Here at Habitat for Humanity Great Britain, we are proud to be part of this global network – united by a common purpose, and inspired by the collective impact of communities working together across more than 60 countries.

Because this is what Habitat has always stood for: building homes, building hope, building opportunity, building futures.

And the impact continues to grow.

In just the last 15 years, Habitat has expanded its reach 100-fold – a remarkable achievement that reflects both the scale of the challenge and the determination to meet it. Yet even as we celebrate this progress, we know the work is far from over.

Millions of people still wake each day without the safety of a decent home. Without walls strong enough to protect them. Without a door they can close at night, or open to a better tomorrow.

That is why, as Habitat for Humanity marks its 50th anniversary, it is launching a global call to action: Let’s Open the Door.

This campaign is an invitation, to come together, to raise our voices, and to take meaningful action for housing access and affordability. Because the solutions exist. The knowledge is there. What’s needed now is the collective will to go further, together.
