Why volunteer in Nepal?
49% of the population lives in substandard housing, and Habitat Nepal is working to improve access to safe, affordable homes and foster a more inclusive housing market.
Kavrepalanchowk District: Located in an earthquake-prone zone, this district was among the worst hit in the 2015 earthquake, with around 72,000 houses destroyed; many families still live in unsafe, disaster-vulnerable structures.
Paanchkhal Municipality: (Danuwar community): Over 30% of families live in mud-mortar houses, while many marginalized households rely on makeshift bamboo and thatch shelters with poor sanitation, leaving them at high risk of fire, health problems, and deepening poverty.
Eastern Region: Many marginalized families live in temporary homes made from bamboo, twigs, and mud that offer little protection from extreme weather, lack proper sanitation, and require costly repairs, trapping residents in cycles of poor health and poverty.
Register NowWhat will you do?
Whilst you are in Nepal, you can expect early starts so that work can begin before the sun is at it’s highest point.
You will build alongside the local community, local volunteers, and the homeowners themselves to build safe and resilient homes..
On site you will support local labor and families by mixing mortar, carrying bricks/blocks, building foundation, bamboo walls (cleaning, splitting, measuring, weaving bamboo), applying mud/cement plaster, and painting the walls.
Don’t worry if you don’t have any building experience. Full guidance will be provided during orientation, and you will be assisted by experienced masons and a Team Leader throughout the build.
