Why volunteer in Kenya?
In Laikipia, Kenya more than 55% of the population lives in poverty, with 65% living in inappropriate housing. 15% of households in the county use pit latrines and 44.7% need to travel an average of 15-29 minutes to access water.
In Laikipia County, HFH Kenya has been actively involved since 2015, focusing on key operational areas like Settlement-Based Practice, Financing for Owner-Led Construction (FOC), Disaster Risk Reduction and Response (DR3), and Evidence-Based Advocacy. HFH Kenya also conducts community training sessions on affordable housing solutions, demonstrating that alternative building technologies can reduce construction costs and empower community members to build decent houses using affordable and environmentally friendly local materials. These initiatives address critical community needs, including housing, water, sanitation, hygiene, livelihoods, and education.
Register NowWhat will you do?
Whilst you are in Kenya, you can expect early starts so that work can begin before the sun is at it’s highest point.
You will build alongside the local community, local volunteers, and the homeowners themselves.
On site you could be fitting insulation, cutting down materials, digging and laying foundations, laying flooring, plastering new walls, and more.
Don’t worry if you don’t have any building experience. Full guidance will be provided during orientation, and you will be assisted by experienced masons and a Team Leader throughout the build.
