In rural Siem Reap, Cambodia, Pai Tun and his wife, Nhoung Oeuy, know what it means to live behind a door that never truly opened.
Both wheelchair users, the couple faced daily challenges in a home that was never designed for their needs. Narrow doorways made it difficult to move from room to room. There were no ramps to ease their way. Even the simplest tasks, like opening a door, became obstacles, with fixtures they could not easily use. At Habitat for Humanity, we believe it’s unacceptable for people to live like this.
As parents to three-year-old Pai Siev, the couple longed for something more: a home where their daughter could grow up safe, and where they could care for her with greater ease.

When we met Pai Tun and Nhoung Oeuy, we listened. Together, we worked alongside them to build a home shaped around their lives. Today, their house is built from sturdy brick, with a solid roof, windows that let in light and air, and wide, accessible doorways. Ramps connect each space. Handles are designed for ease. And for the first time, they have a toilet within their home. Most importantly, they now have a strong, lockable front door – a threshold offering safety and independence.
With your support today, more doors can open, and more families can step through into lives filled with possibility.
With the stability of a safe, accessible home, they have been able to open a small shop connected to their house, selling groceries and everyday essentials to earn an income, support their daughter, and play an active role in their community. Because when the door to a safe home is opened, it doesn’t stop there. It unlocks independence. It creates opportunity. It gives families the tools they need to build their own future.
With you beside us, we will continue to build and improve homes, advocate for fairer housing systems, and work alongside communities to unlock lasting change. The solutions exist, but it will take all of us to open the door wider, until everyone has a safe place to call home.

With your support, more families can move from daily barriers to lasting independence. Habitat for Humanity is working alongside communities to build and improve homes that are safe, accessible and designed for real life, providing the security and opportunity every family deserves.
Together, we can help open the door to a future where everyone has a place to call home.
Thank you.
