The House to Home project is amazing. One client has just been supported by the initiative, and it’s really been life changing for them and the family.
A single parent with four children was referred to House to Home after moving into a new property following a relationship breakdown.
An empty house
The family had moved into a completely unfurnished house and needed practical support to make the property into a comfortable home.
Following the referral, our House to Home Supervisor and the family’s support worker visited the property to understand what was needed and identify the family’s priorities. The family needed furniture for several rooms, as well as some simple changes that would make the house feel more comfortable and private.
A new home
Through House to Home and Habitat ReStore, the family was able to choose furniture and household items included beds, a sofa and armchair, tables, chairs, storage, lamps, cushions, rugs and blinds.
The following week, our House to Home co-ordinator and three volunteers returned to help transform the children’s bedroom and install a blind in the living room, giving the family greater privacy from the busy road. What had started as an empty property was becoming a home: furnished, decorated, and shaped around the needs of the family.
