Project: Slum Upgrading
Project: Slum Upgrading
Volunteers will work in Recife, Brazil assisting vulnerable families with children and youth. The majority of the community live in favelas – also known as shacks, which are often humid and mouldy.
Many of the houses do not have bathrooms and are in need of repairs and renovations due to their unsafe infrastructure. Overcrowding is also a common issue within Recife’s favelas.
Through repairs and renovations, families can live in safer, healthier environments that are free from the risk of respiratory diseases and other illnesses.
Help build new homes alongside local workers and the families who need them.
Typical Volunteer Activities
- Building bathrooms
- Changing roof shingles
- Laying floor tiles
- Building and painting new walls
- Installing new doors and windows
About our building projects
It is important to note that these building projects are not dependent on volunteers, nor created for the sole purpose of “entertaining” them (e.g. voluntourism).
Every day around the world local builders are working on our projects, creating local jobs, and boosting the economy. Volunteers bring a crucial boost to the productivity and a valuable reminder that compassionate people want to help these families and communities to thrive.
Partner with a group of volunteers in Brazil to experience the food, culture and help families build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.
Make Your Impact
This is your unique opportunity to help families build their homes by raising vital funds and directly contributing to our work on the ground. Your days on the construction site, building side by side with the community, will make a real difference for families who need of a safe place to call home. Join a team of volunteers who share your passion for travel with a purpose and see what you can achieve.
