Pathways to Permanence approach

Our disaster response follows a Pathways to Permanence approach aimed at providing lasting solutions to disaster-affected families. We help families move from emergency shelter through transitional housing to a permanent and resilient home, and we work alongside local Habitat affiliates, aid agencies and governments so that recovery is coordinated, dignified and built to last.

How our disaster response works

Our approach differs, whether it’s from immediate disaster response to tailored rehabilitation to the needs of individuals and families.

Emergency response

We assess housing and shelter needs, clear debris, and provide emergency shelter kits so families have safety and stability.

Transitional support

We help families access transitional shelter, secure land rights and plan next steps while longer-term rebuilding gets underway.

Long-term recovery

We rebuild homes to be safer and more resilient, using disaster-resistant techniques and materials suited to local risks.
